About this hunt

A nighttime seeded hunt hosted by the Highland Lakes Metal Detecting Club at Haley-Nelson Park, 200 Garden (Hwy W) Trail, Burnet, Texas 78611 — Saturday, September 19, 2026. Sign-up and meeting run 8:30–9:00 PM, the hunt itself 9:00–10:30 PM, awards at 10:45 PM. Bring a headlamp. Entry is $25 and the club publishes exactly how it is split: $10 toward two prize drawings (a carbon-shaft digging shovel and a carbon-shaft sand shovel), $10 toward four silver dimes per entry, and $5 into the Black Nickel pot. Several special finds are planted — painted pennies redeem for one silver dime each; three prize tokens award the digging shovel, the sand shovel, and a donated coin collection; and one Black Nickel wins the whole accumulated pot. The field also carries small jewelry, coins, trash coins and other challenging targets, buried up to about 2 inches, so a light digging tool is recommended. Teams are allowed. The club recommends bringing a chair, bug spray and plenty of water. NOTE: the club requires a minimum of 8 paid entries for the hunt to take place. Sign-up sheet is available at the September 5 club meeting at the Kingsland branch of the Llano County Library; if you cannot make the meeting, contact the club to sign up. HLMDC meets the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM in Kingsland; meetings are open to all and dues are $15 per year, which also includes membership in the Texas Association of Metal Detecting Clubs.
